Earl Nightingales Formula

How valuable is my time?

not sure, lets see if the formula helps.....

Demand-

At my current work place and in the Greenwich area there is a very high demand for Personal Trainers that show passion for their work and TRULY care about their clients success in all areas of health and fitness.

Ability -

I feel my ability is a bit one dimensional at the moment.

My ability to provide a first class standard of one-on-one training is high. All my effort goes into the care of all my clients needs,- posture correction, sports specific, nutrition etc. Sometimes going that extra mile giving free advice, books, even taking them food shopping.
I am proud of the service I give to my clients but the quality of service definatly drops the busier I get.

My ability in other areas, web presence, business structure, marketing, public speaking, article writing, running a private facility etc .....is (i was going to put low but changed my mind!) presently untapped.

With learning, practice, ups and downs, my ability in these areas can only get better.

DIFFICULTY TO REPLACE -

At my work place it would not be difficult to get someone else to come in and take up mine or Judit's rental position.

But would they be successful?

In the four years I have been there trainers have come and gone none being able to make a living (eating Chinese takeaway at reception, drinking coke while training someone, using a one size fits all machine program and being rude to clients didn't seem to work!). Other trainers continually moaning there is not enough business for one let alone four trainers.

When Judit joined me two years ago everyone thought she was stupid to take the position. Within six months she was full and we had a long waiting list.
It took me till now to realise my worth, I would doubt my ability all the time always comparing myself to other trainers, I remember looking at some of your great websites!

In the fitness industry there is a lot of great trainers that could replace me, but I will strive to be the best I can be.

Outcome -

The outcome is our current services on average bring in £2400 a week for 60 hours of pt sessions plus approx 40 hours admin and research. Add on costs and tax we are probably working for under £20 an hour , god it sounds crap when you work it out like that!

What we want!

At the moment Judit and I have no life in the week, are dead at the weekends and I'm having to rush this blog cos I need some sleep!

We would really love to have children, give more time to our hard working working clients and have more variety in our work.

We are going to work to achieve the following from this program;

-Build links and networks with other like minded trainers

-Stretch ourselves and complete tasks we have never done before but have always wanted to do, these might include;

Writing articles

Build a more structured work system

Build a website

Build a web presence

Get a USP

Learn about ebook writing and marketing

Do some public speaking

Get links with tv/radio/magazines

All of these thing will lead to us being able to cut back on training time, concentrate on moving into our own place and employ other trainers.

Mark`s introduction

Hi

Sorry I'm late.

My name is Mark Lawrence I am 29 years old and have been a personal trainer for 4 years now. After uni i worked in leisure middle management for a few years before training as a pt and now pay rent for the use of a leisure centre gym in Greenwich. My partner Judit (who will introduce herself later and use this blog too) joined me two years ago and we now work together under the name Lawrence & Rago Personal Training.

I love rugby and played in the national leagues but have not played for a couple of years due bone growths in my hip and ankle which i have had operated on this year. I am really hope to get back playing next year.

I have been working hard for 4 years now but feel very burnt out. I do about 35-45 sessions a wk and it is really catching up with me. I love to learn so seem to spend all my money on books, ecourses and DVDS.
Another mistake I made until recently is not networking, so I am really looking forward to working with all of you.

Basically I have kept myself in a comfort bubble which is not so comfortable any more.

I have been a bit of an internet stalker over the last year signing up to loads of newsletters mainly in Ryan Lee's circle, dax, craig ballantyne, mike boyle, alwyn cosgrove etc. I would look at their sites and think........

I wish i could be as good as him, I should be doing that, how did he do that?, why did he send that, could i do that?

and the most common thought.... ill never be that good.

No more negativity, I can do it and I cant wait to learn!

Ive been sitting on the fence about the PTSA for the last month, mainly cos i was scared but my fear has turned in to excitement now (after Judit kicked me up the arse!) , good luck to everyone!

Judit's Introduction

Hi Everyone,

My name is Judit Rago and I am a bit of a late comer to the PTSA.

I am Hungarian and came to England 10 years ago. 6 years ago I met Mark who is my fiance and my business partner too.

We have a small personal training business which we run from a gym where we pay rent in Greenwich.

I remember back then when I came to England I was really fit because I was 21 and because I grew up living a busy life that came with growing up in the country side.I didn't really know much about diet as such and didn't really know much about exercising either.

So I arrived to the big city and I started to adjust to the life everyone was living.

I ate what was sold cheaply in big supermarkets and used public transport and cars to go everywhere.I gained 3 stone in 6 months and developed severe acne.

I was forced to realised that something was really wrong. I was not eating more quantity than before and my body was still turning into this blob.

I had to sort myself out somehow.I did some research about food and I realised what sort of food I had been eating. From then on I refused to eat anything that was packaged and ate only food that was whole and unprocessed.

I also started to do some exercise and got really into running. The more I did it the more I enjoyed it.

I met Mark a few years back.He was really into his sport(rugby) and gym training and I started to do weight training with him.

He was already a trainer when we decided that I should qualify too and see if we could work together.

After qualifying at Premier as a pt and sport massage therapist I wanted to see how it is to work on my own first and try to build a business.I worked at the local Fitness First and after 6 months I was fully booked.

Today we've been working together for two years and our business is really busy. In fact so busy that we both started to burn out.
We leave to work at 630 in the morning and most nights don't get home 'till 10.

But because we have been so busy we had no time to do things that would get us out of the situation.

I had to use a little force to get Mark onto this programme as he is a bit scared to come out of his own little bubble but I know he'll be glad once the hard work is done.

I hope after doing Dax's PTSA we will be able to cut back on our hours and will be able to make moves that will get us into a position where we will hire other trainers and open our own place.

Hope to talk to you all soon...

Judit
